Rockville United Methodist Church is an active community full of positive welcoming people. If church isn’t your thing, but you like helping people, we are happy for your assistance. Like most churches today, RUMC is feeling the financial strain of trying to pay its bills and continue to meet the needs of the community. Below are some (creative) ways you can help RUMC financially and volunteer opportunities available through the church.
Amazon Smile: Amazon Smile is a platform for nonprofit organizations to receive donations through Amazon. Log into Amazon through our Amazon Smile platform page and shop as you normally do. The eligible purchases are tabulated automatically and Amazon Smile makes a donation for a percent of the total to RUMC. Your purchase, payment, and shipping remain the same as it always is; all you need to do is log into your Amazon account through our Amazon Smile page.
Dinners and Events: RUMC hosts several dinners throughout the year to raise money. The delicious food is cooked in our kitchen on site and served in our Fellowship Hall. Our adult choir and children’s Grove Street Music Project perform a yearly Leap of Faith Concert. Our women’s club hosts a Holiday Bazaar every year. Your attendance and support at these events help us run the church and provide for our neighbors. Here is a sample of the events:
- June – Strawberry Supper
- November – Harvest Dinner
- November – Leap of Faith Concert
- November – Holiday Bazaar
We accept cash and checks: Make checks payable to RUMC. If you want the money to go to a specific mission, please write it in the memo line (ex. music program, youth program, stop hunger now, etc.). Mail the checks to RUMC, 142 Grove Street, Rockville, CT 06066.
Youth Programs: Our youth programs extend beyond church and Sunday school. Friends and neighboring children are invited to join us at our Youth Basketball, Sleepovers, Family Nights, Grove Street Music Project, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Mission Week. The kids combine helping others and fun as only kids can do. If you are interested in any of these activities, please call, (860) 875-6562, or email the church, [email protected], for more information. Here is an online link to some of our volunteer opportunities.
Good Friday Walk: Our yearly Good Friday Walk raises about $12,000 split between Sharing Inc. and the Cornerstone Foundation here in Vernon, CT. This is truly a community event; people from the three towns of the route volunteer to make sure the event is safe and participants have rest stops. If you are interested in participating in this 20 mile walk, the 2018 sponsor sheet is on our website. If you would like to volunteer — on the day of the event, preparing for the event, purchasing supplies, etc. — please call, (860) 875-6562, or email the church, [email protected], for more information.
Rise Against Hunger: April 21, 2018 3-5pm. Stop Hunger Now is a unique hands-on opportunity to help people. Volunteers package rice meals for distribution to impoverished countries and emergency food at the sites of natural disasters. Experience the immediate satisfaction of watching your efforts produce a tangible product that will be shipped to help those in need. https://www.rockumchurch.com/2018/04/17/meal-packing-event-rise-against-hunger/
